Pros:

  • Excellent length, long arms
  • Good lateral foot quickness
  • Versatile (former Left Tackle)
  • Looks comfortable in reaching the 2nd level (good angles)
  • Excels in combo blocks and peeling off to the 2nd level
  • Looks comfortable in space
  • Ideal flat back in Pass Pro
  • Good pad level
  • Exhibits good patience in Pass Pro
  • Intelligent, understands stunts/games
  • Displays ability to lockout
  • Takes Proper reach step

Cons:

  • Soft build, lacks muscularity
  • Would like to see more lower body power
  • Lacks hip explosion
  • Needs to be more stout at POA while anchoring
  • Able to set quickly but would like to see more urgency
  • Would like to see him deliver a more physical blow, more physicality to his game
  • At times tends to lean into blocks
  • Needs to be more consistent in planting 2nd foot in ground
  • Tends to catch blocks in Pass Pro instead of striking using his hands
  • Needs to finish off blocks, more of a nastier demeanor
  • Would like to see more consistency in hand placement
  • Needs to punch/recoil in Pass Pro

Analysis:

Jones possesses good foot quickness but I do have concerns about his overall strength.  Jones is a versatile athlete that has the ability to play either Center, Guard or Tackle.  In 2011 Jones started at Offensive Tackle and won the Outland Trophy given to the nation’s best interior offensive lineman.  Currently I project Jones as a center at the next level, although I anticipate teams to also give him a look at Guard and Tackle as well.
