#72 Oday Aboushi, OG/OT Virginia
HGT: 6-6 WGT: 310
Aboushi was twice named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week, won the award following 13 knockdown blocks and helping Virginia roll up 360 yards of total offense in a road win at Indiana and also won the award following 11 knockdown blocks as Virginia piled up 470 yards of total offense in the Cavaliers’ road win at Miami. Shows decent athleticism, very long and lean frame. Has good arm length which helps him create space and lock out on defenders. At times shows the ability to deliver a solid punch when in pass protection. Reaches edge defenders within first few steps. Overall plays with good footwork. Does a good job winning in 1 on 1 situations.
Would like to see Aboushi add more bulk. Needs to develop more upper body strength. Would like to see more push at point of attack. Pad Level proves to be inconsistent, at times plays to up and down which does not allow him to transfer force out of his stance. In space his hands become sloppy and he often grabs which may make him susceptible to holding calls. Needs to improve on hand placement and punch timing. Struggles on the edge with speed rushers. Plays left tackle with a phone booth mentality which better fits at guard.
Aboushi looks to have some of the tools and the upside to be a potential starter in the NFL at Guard. The interesting thing is to see how he continues to get better and improve his skill set over the course of this off season which will help him make a smooth transition to Guard. I think Aboushi’s lack of overall strength/lower body explosiveness will prevent him from playing his college position of left tackle.
