- Very good violence in his initial blow, exhibits ideal hand placement
- Good not elite straight line speed for an LB
- Lacks elite Range but good enough
- Good short area quickness, able to plant and redirect
- Displays instincts
- Very good balance and body control
- Understand proper depth and route recognition in zone coverage
- Ability to diagnose blocks at the LOS
- Attacks LOS downhill
- Good closing burst towards QB
- Excellent physicality at POA, able to disengage blocks at LOS as well as in space on the perimeter
- Able to bend knees and transition out of zone drop
- Understands gap integrity within defensive scheme
- Intelligent prospect (On field)
Cons:
- Short in length
- Adequate athlete
- Displays some stiffness
- Concerns in Man Coverage (Length, overall athleticism)
- At times tends to lunge into tackles (Needs to bring legs)
- Exhibits ability to disengage blocks but at times needs to do so quicker
- Lacks ball skills
Analysis:
I came away very impressed with Kevin Minter’s physicality at the POA on a consistent basis. LSU’s leader, Minter flashes hip explosion. Minter projects as an Inside Linebacker in either a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive scheme.
